    1. Free Touch a Truck Day @ Ridgefield Recreation Center
      11:00 am – 3:00 pm

      Children of all ages are invited to get a close-up look at a variety of Ridgefield Parks & Recreation construction vehicles.  You’ll get to climb on board, blow the horn, and explore these exciting vehicles.  Bring your whole family to this fun event!

    1. Water Safety Instructor Pre-Course Skills Test (ages 16+)
      1:00 pm – 3:00 pm

      This course provides candidates with the training that they need to plan and conduct courses within the American Red Cross Swimming and Water Safety guidelines.  The curriculum covers teaching progressions, lesson planning, recognizing common skill errors, and providing corrective feedback.  Through video and hands-on skill building, the course features clearly described and applied teaching strategies.  Upon successful completion of all activities and written exams, students will receive an American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor Certificate.  There is a physical pre-course skills test which takes place in the pool and must be passed in order to take the course.  Please see below for a list of skills needed for the pre-course test.

      Fall Session: September 20, Saturday 1:00 pm @ Recreation Center Pool
      Winter Session: February 28, Saturday 1:00 pm @ Recreation Center Pool

       

      Fall Session: September 21 – October 25 (no class 10/11, 10/12)
      Winter Session: March 1 – March 28
      Saturday and Sunday 1:00-6:00 pm
      Barlow Mountain Pool
      $435 members, $465 non-members (8 classes)

      Rates include a $150 nonrefundable deposit in the event that a participant does not pass the pre-course and is ineligible for the training program.

      Ridgefield Visiting Nurse Association offers free blood pressure screenings on the 4th Monday of every month (2:00-3:00 pm) in the lobby of the Recreation Center.

      Students taking this one-day class will be taught to recognize and respond appropriately to cardiac and breathing emergencies.  Students who successfully complete this course will receive a certificate for CPR/AED (adult, child, and infant) which is valid for two years.

    1. Bone Density Screening/Wellness Education Series

      Let’s face it, none of us are getting any younger.  Ten million Americans are estimated to have osteoporosis – a health problem that makes your bones thin, weak, and more likely to break.  You can find out if you are at risk by taking a simple and painless test to measure bone loss.  Ridgefield Parks & Recreation in collaboration with Physicians Health & Injury Center is offering a Bone Density Screening.  This event is part of the Wellness Education Series and is free for Recreation Center members and $10 for non-members.

    1. Halloween Window Painting
      10:00 am – 2:00 pm

      Calling all middle school and high school students!  Come and share your artistic talents at our annual Halloween Window Painting.  Sign up as a team or as an individual to paint the storefront windows on Main Street.  This event is cosponsored by Ridgefield Parks & Recreation and the Ridgefield Chamber of Commerce.  We’ll supply the paint (water based tempura) and you supply the creativity.  If inclement weather, the event will be postponed until Sunday, October 19 (12:00-4:00 pm). 

       

      The deadline to register is October 11.  To register, please see the front desk at the Recreation Center.
